Introduction

HUSM is a teaching hospital belonging to Universiti Sains Malaysia. It lies 8km from Sultan Ismail Petra Airport in Pengkalan Chepa. HUSM is an 8-storey T-shaped building, and coloured either green or red/purple. It had 600 beds, now even more beds with its private wing. The admin staff comprise the Hospital Director, Deputy Directors (3), and Registrars. There are many units and depts within HUSM - Nursing Unit, Building Dept, Social Welfare Unit, IT Unit, Treasury/Billing Unit, clinical labs (8), specialist depts & clinics, A&E, Pharmacy, Medical Records Unit, Physiotherapy Unit, Speech Pathology Unit, Dietetics Unit & Kitchen. The medical team comprise MOs, HOs, medical specialists, paramedics, medical lab technologists and support staff.

UPDATE 2011: The new A&E Complex will be nearest the entrance to HUSM. The present A&E Dept is in the old Outpatient Clinic building, nearer to Pharmacy building.

Prof Dr Kamaruzaman Wan Su (Community Medicine) left HUSM in 1992 to join UIA Medical School.
Dr Haji Ramli Saad (Radiology) left HUSM in 2005 to join IPPT, USM in Bertam, Penang.

Audiology and Speech Pathology Unit (Tel: +609-767 4066)

UPDATE 2011:

This is the first Head of Audiology and Speech Pathology Unit, HUSM. He is Haji Affandi bin Haji Hussien (BAppSci Speech Pathology, UKM). He is also the first Muslim Speech Pathologist in Kelantan.

This Unit is sited near Pejabat Keselamatan and Public Relations Office (PRO) at USM Health Campus. The Unit has applied for RM3.4 million at MoH for making a new venue.

UPDATE 2010: HUSM has opened a new Audiology & Speech Pathology Unit in late 2010. The new Unit Head is Haji Affandi bin Hussien.

Audiology & Speech clinics, HUSM

OLD POST: HUSM will soon open its Speech Pathology Unit. This unit will contain both speech pathologists and audiologists under one roof. Talks are still on-going and this unit will duly open this year. There are presently one male and two female speech pathologists. There are two male audiologists. We hope many more students will take up speech pathology or audiology as their career options and join this unit. There are good prospects as speech pathologists or audiologists, as there is on campus locum via USAINS as well as outside locum. Speech pathologists/audiologists can expect to earn RM200/hour if they are highly experienced.
